What People Are Saying
Dear Fellow Fitness Professionals:
I am writing to share with you important information if you are wishing to better educate your fitness staff, differentiate yourself from competing facilities and most importantly, bridge the gap between wellness and rehabilitation to tap into a incredible potential to grow your fitness business while making a significant impact on your retention rate.
I recently had the opportunity to hear Dr. Antico and Dr. Manison of Pro Form Instruction speak at the MACMA convention this past September (2007). I was so overly impressed with their seminar that I had to share it immediately with my personal training staff, so I arranged to have them come to my facility and speak. The one-day seminar has already had a tremendous impact on my staff’s abilities to better work with our clientele and make them feel much more comfortable with addressing the clients’ concerns pertaining to potential and past injuries. While many of my trainers have exercise science degrees, both ACE and ACSM certifications and years of experience in the industry, none of these gave them the hands-on ability and confidence to work with and truly understand how they can best serve their clients’ needs without furthering an injury, or on the flip-side, avoid the area of concern altogether. Also, they know when the time is to refer out to professionals beyond the scope of personal training which only strengthens our position as experts in fitness.
Because of the workshop, I am now much more confident to create stronger alliances with physical therapists and orthopedists to establish a solid referral program. Now, ALL my trainers feel comfortable working with those members who are coming out of rehab or have concerns about areas of discomfort – not just those who have had rehab experience outside the fitness industry.
Every year, I commit to ongoing education for my training staff, and in years past, they have been sent to industry conventions including Club Industry and IDEA. I believe my investment in the Pro Form Instruction training was by far the BEST investment I have made toward bettering the education of my training team over the past 5 years. As opposed to my team being dispersed among various speakers who may have varying philosophies on training, my staff was able to learn together, ask questions and develop a consistency, so that there is no discrepancy among our staff in how we handle questions regarding aches, pains and injuries. Again, this strengthens our position as fitness experts.
So, would I recommend it? I think it should be a mandatory training for anyone seeking to become a true personal training professional. This is what all trainers should attend upon getting out of college, completing a certification or just training after several years of hands-on experience… EVERYONE will benefit.
