Healthcare Fitness Liaison Program

Introduction: This course work is intended to prepare fitness professionals to smoothly integrate with the healthcare industry and provide clients with a more comprehensive approach to exercise and wellness. Completion of this course work will enable professionals and their facilities to provide services to this untapped market while offering a much needed community service and profiting greatly.

This can be scheduled to accommodate each facility’s needs and to assure adequate time for preparation and understanding. Maximizing the number of continuing education credits received by each professional is considered when scheduling the program.

Successful completion of this program will result an Advanced Achievement Certificate as a “Healthcare Fitness Liaison” by PRO FORM INSTRUCTION, L.L.C. In addition, a quality dri-fit shirt with these credentials proudly displayed will be provided in order to easily identify trainers within your facility who have obtained this level of education.

Total Continuing Education Hours: 36
(Due to each organization’s individual requirements, actual CEU’s may vary slightly)

**Once obtained, in order to maintain the HFL designation, on a yearly basis, 6 hours of CEUs must be obtained from Pro Form Instruction, LLC directly or 12 hours from a class (classes) with HFL related material approved by Pro Form Instruction, LLC. The HFL professional must petition the class(es) for approval. The fitness professional must also maintain their nationally approved certification (must be accredited by ICE...www.credentialingexcellence.org) as well as present a valid CPR certification from the AHA or Red Cross.

Workshop I/Healthcare & Fitness…Bridging the Gap (Two part workshop)

Description: Addressing fitness clients more comprehensively in the future must include advice not only pertaining to exercise, but also nutrition, injury prevention/treatment, and general wellness. This workshop will offer insight into the integration of these two industries and enable the fitness professional of the future to take a more active role in their client’s well-being. Part I of this workshop will include a brief look at the fitness industry of the past and an in-depth look at the future. Educational requirements, facility programming, and marketing strategies, will be discussed. Part II (typically offered at the end of the program) will focus on reinforcing important concepts and motivating fitness professionals to actively pursue this market. It will dive deep into specific programming, marketing strategies, and communication skills. Specific topics will include strategies for developing relationships with healthcare professionals, client interview and screening procedures, and “condition specific programming”.

Objectives: Students will gain an understanding for what will be necessary in order to succeed in the fitness industry by networking with healthcare professionals. Students will possess the ability to implement specific marketing strategies designed to develop valuable relationships within the healthcare community. Students will be able to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals.

Fitness Workshops

Workshop II: Anatomy, Physiology, & Kinesiology (Two part workshop: Part I – Lower Body, Part II – Upper Body)

Description: This interactive anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology course includes a comprehensive review of muscles, bones, joints, ligaments, and other relevant support structures.  This course covers not only how these structures relate to one another and to overall human function, but also what part each structure plays within the exercise program.  This is a great workshop for both new fitness professionals looking to advance their knowledge and veterans looking for an in-depth review. This two part class is packed with information!

Objectives: Students completing this workshop will learn about the musculoskeletal system as it relates to the fitness environment.  Students will become comfortable with how the body’s structures work and how to optimize their function.  Fitness Workshops

Workshop III: Posture & Muscle Balance (Combines key information from Posture & Muscle Balance I - Lower Body and Posture & Muscle Balance II - Upper Body into one class)

Description: A kinesiology based course, this interactive program explores both normal and abnormal postural patterns. Special focus is placed on the identification, evaluation, and treatment of muscles commonly involved in postural faults.  This course is intended for all fitness professionals, particularly those with or desiring a strong background in kinesiology. A good understanding of facilitation/inhibition patterns will be developed.

Objectives: Students will be able to identify normal and abnormal postural patterns.  Students will then be able to evaluate these patterns and develop appropriate exercise routines to help correct the underlying muscle imbalances. Fitness Workshops

Workshop IV: Exercise & Injury: Maximizing Training

Description: This workshop discusses the more common musculoskeletal injuries/conditions experienced by active individuals. Focus is placed on identification, treatment, and prevention of such injuries, as well as those exercises most commonly associated with them. This course is intended for fitness professionals looking to help clients maximize their workouts while properly identifying and avoiding injuries that may occur. This class contains very important information and terminology necessary for fitness professionals who really want to tap into the potential client base from physical therapists, chiropractors, and other professionals who work with musculoskeletal injuries.

Objectives: Students will become more familiar with the anatomy and kinesiology of discussed muscles and will be able to identify signs and symptoms associated with common musculoskeletal injuries. Material covers exercises most commonly associated with such injuries. Students will learn common treatment protocols so that they can modify their clients’ exercise routines as necessary.Fitness Workshops

Workshop V: Common Diseases….A Basic Review (Two Part Workshop)

Description:  This workshop will discuss pertinent information regarding five of the most common conditions in today’s society. Heart Disease, Diabetes, Obesity, (Part I) and Arthritis and Osteoporosis (Part II) are prevalent and affect many in our population like never before. This workshop will review definitions, risks factors, prevention and treatment, as well as exercise protocols and lifestyle recommendations to assist in prevention and management. All trainers will come across clients with these conditions/diseases...it is very important to be well-informed about them.

Objectives: Students completing this workshop will gain basic knowledge of these common conditions. Students will possess the ability to communicate effectively with clients regarding these conditions and develop specific exercise protocols to assist in prevention and/or management.
